DELIVERING YOUR PRESENTATION

Teacher Checklist | AACE Member Checklist | Delivering Presentation | Creative Enhancements | PowerPoint® Tip Sheet

This presentation will help you educate sixth-grade students about the importance of good nutrition and fitness habits.  Easy-to-follow speaking notes outline how students can integrate physical activity and healthy eating habits into their lifestyle.  The entire program should last about thirty minutes.  The ideal presentation should facilitate dialogue with the students throughout the program.

To ensure a successful presentation, follow these simple steps for preparation and execution:

  • Call ahead to check on the classroom accommodations.
  • What is the availability of a projection system and screen?
  • Will they provide a laptop computer or do you need to bring your own?
  • If you are using their laptop, do they have the PowerPoint® program on the computer?
  • Are there other classrooms where outside interference could disrupt your presentation?
  • Review the speaking notes and the other documents provided in this resource kit.
  • If necessary, send media release forms to the school requesting that parents/guardians fill out the “Photograph, Film or Vocal Recording release” in case of publicity.
  • Allow yourself time to test the projection system and your computer.
  1. Distribute Rx Pads, pedometers and questionnaires
  • Pass out Pretests before the presentation and Posttests after the presentation.
  • Distribute Student and Teacher questionnaires after the presentation. Be sure to collect the questionnaires and posttests prior to leaving the classroom.

Teacher’s Classroom
The Five Day Lesson Plan has been designed to reinforce your presentation. If possible, give the teacher instructions prior to your presentation on where to locate and download the classroom materials and find out if the teacher will be using these materials after your presentation. If the teacher plans on using the materials, you will want to use the speaker notes as an outline. If the teacher plans NOT to use the teacher’s materials, please feel free to incorporate any activities and/or handouts into your presentation. Handouts in the “POP Teacher Presentation Materials” may be copied for distribution.
